Sandlot Baseball/Football Outreach
Bolivian kids only spend half-a-day in school. They are very curious. And for the most part, natural athletes. So, for the last two years, VLM has taken advantage of these three elements.
Primarily using American Baseball; we have successfully reached out to an untold number of kids from all different kinds of backgrounds. And hundreds of those kids have received Christ; at times, together with their parents.
These kids love both baseball and football. The 'hook' is the novelty of the game. Being played publicly in a park or plaza, it quickly attracts the curious attention of kids that have never seen a baseball glove or held a bat in their hands. We invite them to play. And with that first step, they are assimilated into those whom we are already discipling.
Most of these kids have no father in their home; and receiving attention, guidance, and praise from an adult male seems to be the critical key to their continuing with us. In discipleship, we attempt to transfer that particular hunger from their relationship with us, to their relationship with Christ.
What would Jesus do with a Baseball? *smile*
